British and International Golf Greenkeepers Association (BIGGA)

BIGGA is the largest membership association for golf greenkeepers in Europe, providing an extensive range of benefits and support to its members.

Learning and Development is the key activity for BIGGA, delivering industry specific programmes, events and funding for its members to ensure that golf clubs are maintained more professionally and efficiently in the future.

Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is widely recognised as a vital component in enhancing any profession.  BIGGA provides a CPD programme for its members providing a structure to evidence improving competency and knowledge.

The BIGGA Accredited Greenkeeper programme is due to launch in 2014.

This new programme will provide eligible BIGGA Members with the opportunity to undertake an industry recognised programme that will demonstrate to peers and employers that they are committed to achieving a higher standard of personal learning and development.  The scheme will also provide employers with a coherent path for staff development.

BIGGA’s Master Greenkeeper Certificate (MGC) is recognised around the world as the premier greenkeeping qualification.  Awarded to those who have reached the highest standards of greenkeeping and golf course management.  It is a prestigious, industry award gained through experience, formal and informal training, high quality golf course management and a two-part examination.

Educational seminars and conferences are offered throughout the year through a network of Regions and Sections around the UK.

The highlight of the year is BTME, the largest indoor sports turf exhibition in Europe. The event showcases the Continue to Learn education programme, a four day education event featuring a series of one and two day workshops, a Turf Managers’ Conference, ‘Focus On’ sessions and a full seminar programme.  With over 180 hours of education delivered, this is the cornerstone of BIGGA’s education offering.

To support members, BIGGA provide funding for education courses through the Refund of Fees scheme and the BIGGA Higher Education Scholarship.
